Thanksgiving Looks A Little Different This Year, But It's Still Time To Gather With Family & Friends

This year maybe a little different than the past Thanksgivings, but lets make the best of it. It can be very sad when traditions on holidays can't happen this year due to Covid, but that just means we can start new ones. This has been the year of starting new traditions and trying new things that are Covid friendly. I brainstormed some ideas on how to spend Thanksgiving during the year of social distancing. Now keep in mind I'm no health official and these are ideas that seem safe to me. Hopefully one of these ideas will work for you and your family. Or take one of mine and turn it into something all your own! All that matters this Thanksgiving is that you eat amazing food and try to find at least one thing in 2020 you're grateful for. Although that might seem hard I am sure there is at least one thing you can be grateful for. Here are my 7 ideas on how to spend this years turkey day during Covid.
Eat Dinner With Just Your Household

I started with the simplest idea to kick off this article. If you or your extend family don't feel save traveling this year keep dinner simple with just the people in your house. Have fun and create a cooking competition and have your own Food Network T.V show. Also who said you had to have the normal Thanksgiving feast, maybe instead make your favorite dinner. Or make pies for your friends and family that live near by and drop them off at their door step to spread the holiday cheer. Do whatever feels right for you and your family this year! This is the perfect year for starting new family traditions.
Have Thanksgiving Dinner Over Zoom

Okay I know this picture is definitely for Christmas, but were just going to roll with it. Since we may not be having dinner with the entire family as usual in person, lets do it online. Cook your favorite dishes and sit down with your family in a scheduled Zoom call. It will feel like they are really there, but without all the germs. If you don't want to have Thanksgiving dinner over Zoom, do cocktail hour with appetizers or after dinner while having a break before dessert. Or space the video calls throughout the day while your cooking. This year Zoom will be having free unlimited minutes for video calls on Thanksgiving day! Giving the perfect opportunity to give your family and friends and quick call to let them know how thankful you are to have them in your life!
Donate Your Time At a Soup Kitchen

If you are planning on not doing anything for Thanksgiving this year consider donating your time instead. Call up your local soup kitchen and see if they are planning on still serving Thanksgiving dinner. While you're at it ask if they need help with setting up and serving dinner. This is a wonderful way to spend your holiday by helping others. Just make sure to wear your mask and gloves!
Have a Movie Night

This is the perfect night for a movie marathon with all of your favorite movies and snacks. Pick up all of your favorite snacks to munch on while watching movies, that is if you have any room after dinner! Make some hot coco or hot cider and throw on your favorite pjs for a cozy night. Cozy up with a warm blanket and watch your favorite Thanksgiving movies and specials or get an early start on Christmas movies (if you haven't already). Or throw a list together of your favorite all time movies or the movies/shows you've been dying to watch. This is a great way to end Thanksgiving!
Get Started With Online Black Friday Shopping

A lot of companies and brands have extended their sales through out this month and have great online deals before cyber Monday. If you don't have any big plans for Thanksgiving dinner you can spend the day getting started with your Christmas shopping. Make a list of gift ideas for your friends and family and figure out what you can get started with online shopping. Make sure to download Honey on your computer to help you search the internet for even more discounts when your in the checkout! You'll thank me later, trust me!
Board Game Olympics

Gather up all of your board games and card games for a day of fun! Get creative and make your own board game Olympics. You can create teams and keep score of how many times one person wins along with the overall score of the team. Create metals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for the winners. Have half time when dinner is finally ready and come back for the final rounds once your finished eating. Winner or winners gets to be served dessert first and has to defend their title next year or at the next round on Christmas.
Go On a Nature Trail

Spend the day outside with a beautiful nature trail in the morning before you have to start dinner. Go out to your favorite trail or park with the whole household to get some fresh air. Or you can keep it simple with a walk around the block or through the neighborhood. Take your pets with you or take your bikes and go for a ride instead. If you don't have time for a walk you can take dinner outside as long as it's nice enough. Make a picnic in your own back yard and use your patio table for one last time this year. Hopefully the weather will be beautiful on Thanksgiving! This will make for a great tradition to start up and to keep it going for years to come.
